For today's post, I was feeling a bit nostalgic, that is to say... old. Back in the 1990s (so long ago!) these guys were just rising to prominence out of the LA club scene. Their previous album, "Mother's Milk" sold modestly, but the band was suffering after the death of original guitarist Hillel Slovak. Arguably one of the Chili Peppers best efforts, and for sure their first album that sold very well in the US, today's song comes from the 1991 album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik." While I could've picked "Under the Bridge," this song to me is the essence of what the Chili Peppers were about toward the end of the 80s and the early 90s. Hard and funky, their sound grew more mature as the band grew older, but even today you can still hear the funk and punk influences in their sound, even if their new sound is seemingly quite different from what it once was.

Which pill will you take?
Red or Blue? Take the red one, and I'll show you how deep the rabbit hole goes... Anyways, I'm still feelin funky today, as funky as the master of funk himself, George Clinton (if you have seen Good Burger, you'll know what that last link was!), so I thought I'd drop this sick song by Bassnectar as a BONUS for TTRHTH.

Changes
It's amazing what a change of scenery can do. Just by leaving the daily grind of my life for a month or so I've come to realize some things about myself and the world. Life is awesome.
Is my writing a reflection of my life or is my life a reflection of my writing?
Ponder.

Build your castle in the sky, now no one can tell you lies,
Heaven’s not so far if I can see you in my dreams

Daylight
Under the daylight I seek the wind,
but beneath the starlight I find I'm in
a deeper hole than ever imagined,
Deeper than I've ever been.
The stars hold my weight,
the sky breathes my air,
underneath it all,
a disguise so fair.
The sun meets the earth
at the breaking day
and the breaking spray:
to life gives birth.
but beneath the starlight I find I'm in
a deeper hole than ever imagined,
Deeper than I've ever been.
The stars hold my weight,
the sky breathes my air,
underneath it all,
a disguise so fair.
The sun meets the earth
at the breaking day
and the breaking spray:
to life gives birth.

He was so hungry for the world,
but the world didn't stop for him.
Beneath a tree he curled,
As he watched the world shake on the brim.
